BirdingShare This Experience With a Friend

Creek Indians called the Georgia coast ‘The Enchanted Land' perhaps because the tidal mashes and coastal tributaries offer a rich environment for its wildlife.

The 18 sites along the Colonial Coast Birding Trail feature over 300 species found year round and during migratory seasons.

See peregrine falcons at Cumberland Island, the endangered wood stork and great and snowy egrets at Harris Neck, purple sandpipers on Tybee Island and osprey and bald eagles at Jekyll Island.

OkefenokeeShare This Experience With a Friend

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1936 to preserve the 438,000-acres swamp and its unique ecosystems, is accessed by three main entrances: Waycross to the north, Fargo on the west and Folkston on the east.

Each has different interpretive facilities, guided and unguided tours, boardwalks, observation towers, boat rentals and lodging.

Celebrate "the land of trembling earth" at Waycross' Swampfest and Folkston's Okefenokee Fest, or enjoy the Okefenokee Trail by car.

DeSoto Falls named for the famed conquistador offers five beautiful falls along three miles just north of Cleveland.

A paved meandering path takes you to the twin falls of Anna Ruby while you can drive to bottom and to the top of 729-foot Amicalola Falls, Georgia's highest waterfall.
