Tradition/Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft and Traditional Art

Description

On March 1, 2008, the Atlanta History Center unveils its newest exhibition, Tradition/Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft and Traditional Art. Featuring 120 works by 60 southern master traditional arts and contemporary craft artists, the exhibition demonstrates that traditional arts are alive and well in the region. On display through May 18, 2008, this vibrant complement to the museum’s signature exhibition, Shaping Traditions: Folk Arts in a Changing South, includes works by woodworkers, basketmakers, potters, glass artists, quilters, instrument makers, fiber artists, and metal workers from nine Southern states. Tradition/Innovation combines artwork, the art makers’ stories—in both print and audio—with rich, accessible interpretive materials.
