Activities and demonstrations: At the museum, say hey to the Friends of the Vann House volunteers and renew your annual membership. Watch our 15 minute film, “Walking in Two Worlds.” Visit with our Vann House Quilters, try quilting for yourself. Tour the Vann House from root-cellar to attic, hosted by Friends of the Vann House volunteers. South-lawn (back of the Vann House): Chair canning and woodworking by Marvin Garner and doll crafting with a Friend. Inside the Vann Kitchen/Workhouse Exhibit: Butter Churning downstairs and upstairs you will see Friends volunteers demonstrate weaving on an 1800s loom and spinning cotton on a great wheel. At the Cherokee Farmstead: Leather Britches, see an old Appalachian method of food preservation. Visit with Master Gardeners from the Chattooga Garden Club to learn about historic Cherokee farming techniques and the medicinal herbs in our gardens. Along the brick path: Visit Andrew Lee of The Primitive Arts while he hand-crafts bark baskets. Vann’s Corn Crib: Visit local smith Rodney Deal for demonstrations on the blacksmith forge. Visit with Gary Pender for examples of furs and weapons being traded between the Cherokee and white settlers. Visit with a Ranger for a demonstration of black-powder rifles. We'll be firing a rifle on the hour and half-hour. Other sites to visit: Visit the God’s Acre Cemetery from the Moravian Mission at Spring Place, location of the first western-style school on Cherokee land. Ask the front desk staff for directions.
