Step beyond the myth of Gone With the Wind and into the real history it left behind. Tomorrow Is Another Day: Scarlett O’Hara, Gone With the Wind, and the Women History Forgot is a special hybrid Women’s History Month program presented by Southern Shadows Inc. in Chickamauga, Georgia.

Featuring curated film clips, historical storytelling, and guided discussion, this immersive experience explores how fiction and film shaped cultural memory of the Civil War—and how the truth for women across Georgia was far more complex, brutal, and enduring. From Chickamauga’s battlefield aftermath to the ashes of Atlanta, this program highlights the women who survived the war and carried its consequences forward as nurses, widows, caretakers, organizers, and memorial leaders.

Guests will also learn about real historical voices such as Civil War nurse Kate Cummings, and the women-led memorial movements that emerged after the fighting ended. These stories include the work of the Ladies’ Memorial Associations, who gathered the dead, organized burials, created cemeteries, and helped establish Decoration Days—early traditions that shaped the roots of Memorial Day.

This program is available in person or virtually, making it accessible for both locals and travelers. An optional Day Two field experience is also available for those wishing to continue the journey with a guided visit to Marietta Confederate Cemetery.
