Flemington

Originally named The Church and Society of Gravel Hill, Flemington was renamed in 1850 in honor of rice plantation owner William Fleming who settled the area and gifted lots to friends for summer homes. In later years, these homes became permanent settlements along Old Sunbury Road, running through the center of Flemington. The community was a branch of the Midway Church, but separated in 1865 and was admitted to the Georgia Presbytery in 1866. Heavy growth of pine trees made this area important for turpentine and lumber industries.

Today, you can take a driving tour of area attractions including Flemington City Hall, Fraser Davis House, Flemington Presbyterian Church, Brewton-Parker College, and several of the original summer homes. You can also experience several Liberty County attractions nearby: Fort Morris Historic Site, the Midway Church and Museum, and Fort Stewart Museum. Flemington is located south of Savannah. To access, take I-95 exit 76 West for 13 miles of US Highway 84.
