St. Marys' Independence Day Festival is a summer tradition

Festival Provides All Day Entertainment & Fireworks in Downtown St. Marys, Georgia

ST. MARYS, Ga., (May 16, 2017) – The Kiwanis Club of St. Marys 49th Annual Independence Day Festival will be held on Tuesday, July 4 and is one of the area’s most popular and well attended events. “The Independence Day festival is a celebration of community and country and is a summer tradition for many local families and visitors,” tourism director, Angela Wigger said.

This year’s festival theme is “Honoring Our Military” and the celebration will offer events and activities including a 5K/10K run, vendors and entertainment. Advance registration is encouraged for the run, which starts at 7 a.m. and is mandatory for parade participants. Arts & crafts vendors are scheduled to be on site from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and food vendors will be onsite until 10 p.m. The themed parade on Osborne Street will begin at 10 a.m. and is a favorite part of the day.

The evening culminates with a fireworks display over the river just after dark. The St. Marys Waterfront Park is a great location to watch the show, or guests can purchase tickets for the fireworks river cruise that sets off at 7 p.m. River cruise tickets can be purchased at the St. Marys Welcome Center or the Kingsland Welcome Center and are $20 per person.

A 1-Mile Kids Fun Run for kids 14 and under will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 9:00 a.m. on the grounds of the St. Marys Elementary School. Early registration ends on June 26. All registration forms for festival event participation can be found at www.smkiwanis.com.

Kiwanians are known as leaders in community involvement and the planning and execution of this festival attests to their success. Funds raised are used to assist in club programs for children throughout Camden County. Festival sponsorships are still available and anyone wishing to sponsor is encouraged to participate.

The 2017 Independence Day Festival is designated as a Southeast Tourism Society “Top 20 Event.” The dedication of the club in presenting the family friendly, well organized annual celebration has made the festival most deserving of the award.
