Ty Cobb Museum 20th Anniversary Celebration

ROYSTON, GA, April 13, 2018 – The Ty Cobb Museum announced today that the 20th Anniversary Celebration is set for July 26-28, 2018.
Wesley Fricks, executive director of the museum, stated the celebration is all about serving the community where Ty Cobb grew up. “We are looking forward to providing a quality-based program that will be fun, entertaining, informative and enjoyable to everyone.”
The 20th Anniversary Celebration will kick off on Thursday, July 26, with a chartered bus trip to SunTrust Park to watch the Atlanta Braves host the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Friday, July 27, the celebration continues with the Ty Cobb Memorial Golf Tournament at Highland Walk at Victoria Bryant, which will be a Four Person Scramble format. The Shotgun start will be at 9:00 a.m.
Also on Friday, an unveiling ceremony of the Cobb Memorial Hospital display at the Ty Cobb Museum will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. This will feature memorabilia from the original hospital built in 1949 and a timeline of the history of Cobb Memorial Hospital, the Ty Cobb Healthcare, System, Inc., and Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center (now St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia).
Saturday, July 28, a “Breakfast of Champions” will start the day at the John W. Swails Center at Emmanuel College. This event will include a meal, awards presentation and recognitions, and a keynote address. Norm Coleman will perform his one-man play, “TY COBB: The Greatest Player Who Ever Played Baseball.”
Then from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) will hold their Legends for Youth Clinic on the Emmanuel College baseball field. Eight current or former major league players will teach kids aged 6-16 the fundamentals of baseball. The MLBPAA will provide a logo ball for each participant and host an autograph session so kids can get their favorite player’s signature. The big leaguers will also conduct a life skills session and talk to the kids about education and drug abuse.

Also on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., the first-ever Ty Cobb Museum Baseball Symposium will feature Charles Leerhsen, author of the successful and definitive biography of Ty Cobb, A Terrible Beauty. The theme for this event, which will be held at the Taylor Auditorium on the beautiful campus of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, will be “Overcoming Adversity Through Baseball.”
Other Saturday events will include an autograph signing at the Ty Cobb Museum from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. and a closing ceremony beginning at 3:00 p.m. Among the activities will be the results of a silent auction, special presentations and drawings for free prizes.
