Springer Opera House

Tour the 19th century Springer Opera House, recognized as the State Theater of Georgia, to learn about the legends who have performed on its stage – including Ethel Barrymore, Will Rogers and Edwin Booth – as well as some rumored ghostly hauntings. Then, take in a Broadway-style performance. If you prefer something a little edgier, the Springer also plays host to “No Shame Theatre” featuring improv, comedy, music and dance performances on Friday nights.

RiverCenter for the Performing Arts

Ma Rainey House and Blues Museum

Columbus is the birthplace of blues pioneer Gertrude "Ma Rainey" Pridgett. Learn about her life and blues history at her former home, the Ma Rainey House and Blues Museum, one of several stops on the Black Heritage Trail, which tells of the rich African-American legacy in Columbus. The house is packed with things to see, including one of her own pianos, a Victrola cabinet, a posthumously given Grammy Award, photos, and many records and informational posters detailing her influence on the blues genre.

The Columbus Museum

Explore the Chattahoochee Valley through The Columbus Museum's collection of American art and Native American archaeological artifacts. Learn about "The Chattahoochee Legacy," a permanent collection that tells the story of Columbus and the surrounding area. Families with children also will enjoy creating their own works of art in the interactive gallery. Walk one of the nature trails in the Bradley Olmstead Garden, designed by the famed landscape architect, rest among trees and plans indigenous to the area and see what's blooming any time of year.

Rylander Theatre

If you're up for a short 90-minute drive, take a side trip to Americus and visit this 1921 vaudeville venue, which was fully restored in 1999 and is home to a 1928 Moller Theatre Pipe Organ, one of only three in the state. The Rylander Theatre hosts live performances, concerts, movies and other special events.
