Georgia US250

What is Georgia US250?

Georgia was one of the 13 original colonies that declared independence from Great Britain on July 4, 1776, and Georgians made significant contributions to these and subsequent events in the history of the United States.

In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S., which will be celebrated officially on July 4, 2026, the Georgia US250 Committee was established by Governor Brian Kemp to empower communities to plan and celebrate with events that educate and honor this achievement and its ongoing positive effects in the world.

Local and county groups in both the public and private sectors are encouraged to celebrate, commemorate, and observe the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, and the founding of the U.S. through civic, cultural, educational, and historical events and programming through December 31, 2026.

What is the Georgia US250 mission?

The Georgia US250 Commission was established by Governor Brian Kemp to lead the State of Georgia’s participation in the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Realizing that the American Revolution and our experiment in self-government is an ongoing process, the Commission encourages and promotes programming and other activities that inspire Georgians to renew their commitment to the lofty and timeless ideals embodied in the Declaration of Independence – namely, the equality of all people and their inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
