Helen

Helen is a charming German-inspired town in northeast Georgia known for its Bavarian-style buildings, beautiful vineyards, and easy access to outdoor recreation at Unicoi State Park and on the Chattahoochee River. Its vibrant alpine village, nestled in the mountains, will transport you straight to Germany as you stroll past colorful shops and local restaurants serving European fare.

While small in size (only two square miles) Helen hosts some of North Georgia’s most popular festivals. There’s Oktoberfest, of course, plus a Christmas festival that takes place in what has been called the #1 Christmas town in America.

Even though it’s in the south, Helen’s location in the North Georgia mountains helps it enjoy four distinct seasons. Enjoy mild temperatures in spring, hot and sunny summers, cool fall days and crisp autumn nights, and chilly winters with occasional light snow. 

Helen is located in the northeast corner of the state near the North and South Carolina borders.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is the closest major airport to Helen, about 90-100 miles away. Athens-Ben Epps Airport (AHN) is only 55 miles away, but offers significantly fewer flight options.
