Tybee Island
Sand, sea and salty breezes have a charm all their own, combined with a dash of history, fresh local cuisine and an array of outdoor adventures. Tybee Island is located 20 minutes from historic Savannah. This barrier island boasts five miles of public beaches, including North Beach, South Beach, Back River, and Mid-Beach, all perfect for sunbathing, people-watching, surfing, and frolicking in the sand and surf of the Atlantic Ocean. The island's south-end pier and pavilion provide the perfect venue for a picturesque view or reeling in the day's catch.
Find The Tybee Lighthouse — one of the nation's oldest lighthouses — at North Beach. This treasure was built in 1736 and offers a spectacular view from the top. Our Marine Science Center features aquariums showcasing our native marine life.
Just south of the main drag is Little Tybee Island, an uninhabited nature preserve only accessible by boat, kayak, or jet ski. Pack a lunch — or a tent — and camp out for the day.
There are more than 800 residences that serve as vacation rentals on Tybee Island. Houses, cottages, and condos offer outstanding options for beachfront, beach view, and marsh view locations across the island. Hotels and bed and breakfast inns (like Hotel Tybee and Surf Song) are also available.
Enjoy dining out at the island's 25 restaurants (all casual), many featuring fresh, local seafood and warm, friendly Southern smiles. Check out local favorites like Sea Wolf and Pier 16.
For a day off the sand, peruse Tybee's art galleries, visit Fort Pulaski National Monument, walk along a nature trail, go on a dolphin tour, hop on a fishing charter, and stroll through the shops on Tybrisa Street.
