Built in 1839 by Richard Goetchius, the Goetchius House is inspired by New Orleans architecture. Richard Goetchius built this home with a wide entry hall, high ceilings, decorative iron and ornamental medallions for his bride, Miss Mary Anne Bennett. The house was enjoyed by family until 1919 when it was rented to Dr. Mercer Blanchard, and later his son, Dr. Mercher Blanchard, who were beloved in the community as the town pediatric doctors. The house fell into disrepair and eventually acquired by John Woodruff, Jr. who surgically disassembled the house into 7 pieces and relocated it from the original location at 204 11th Street to its current location at 405 Broadway in the Historic District in 1969. Woodruff became a founding member of the Columbus Historic Society. The house retains the time-tested craftsmanship and details. Original hand carved cornices, plaster crown moldings, magnificent chandeliers and stunning historic stained glass are just a few of the features that take you back to antebellum era elegance in a time before Lincoln was President. The vast grand courtyard behind the house contains a historic fountain and a view of the Chattahoochee River.

During its operation from 1969 until roughly 2010, it continuously hosted countless weddings, proms, graduations, birthdays, corporate events and other special occasions for a span over 4 decades until it laid silent for a dozen years. Matthew and Renata are the owners and stewards of the property, and the fifth owners since 1839. They performed a full historic rehabilitation and now carry the torch of responsibility to bring this treasure back to live through the labor of love... just like their predecessors. The house is for the community to remember days by gone, and for visitors today to create new special moments to relish and share.
