Celebration Park, the newly imagined park and gathering space in Olde Town Conyers, will open with a ribbon cutting and fun for the family on Wednesday, June 24 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Mayor Alsobrook, members of the Conyers City Council, park contractors S.H. Creel Construction and representatives from Williams, who funded a portion of the stage canopy in the park, will be on hand for the official ribbon cutting followed by festivities designed to showcase the new SPLOST-funded park.

Formerly the Lewis Vaughn Botanical Garden, the designated park space has been a fixture in Olde Town Conyers since it was built and dedicated in 1994. The original garden was a result of a grant and gift by the Vaughn Jordan Foundation, formed in June 1983, with the express purpose of furthering botanical and horticultural science. Lewis C. Vaughn, for whom the foundation is named, was born and raised in Conyers and long an admirer of floral species, in particular, orchids.

Celebration Park is a reimagined space with more expansive gathering areas for families and friend groups with a small amphitheater for outdoor performances and concerts on the pavilion lawn, and a play area for children. The water tower was preserved along with a small koi pond and meditation corner for a reflective experience for visitors, which is named the Lewis Vaughn Meditation Garden.

The grand opening celebration will feature a bubble party with Big Idea Bubbles, Kona Ice (free for the first 100 children), balloon art and face painting, and popular kids disc jockey, DJ Matt, spinning tunes for all ages.

“Celebration Park is more than a new gathering space — it’s a renewed heartbeat for Olde Town Conyers. The park brings both residents and visitors together in a place built for enhanced connection, creativity, and community pride,” said City Manager Kameron Kelley. “This marks a new chapter in our downtown’s story and we hope everyone will come explore and enjoy the finished product.”

Construction on the park began in November 2026 and came in under budget of the $1.389 million in SPLOST funds allotted for the improvement project.

Celebration Park is located at 949 S. Main Street in Olde Town Conyers, adjacent to the Randal S. Mills Pavilion.
