(706) 991-5119How do you celebrate America’s 250th birthday? Come to the massive Voices and Votes: Democracy in America exhibit in Eatonton opening on April 25th and running until May 31st.
Voices and Votes is a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit awarded to Georgia Writers Museum in collaboration with Georgia Humanities. This exhibit is part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program, which provides access to the Smithsonian Institution for small-town America. And Eatonton is the first stop!
Voices and Votes is great for families, field trips, individuals, and anyone interested in the history of American democracy. The exhibit has many dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia, and protest material.
This gigantic exhibit is a springboard for discussions about those very questions and how they are reflected in local stories. Our democracy demands action, reaction, vision, and revision. From revolution and suffrage to civil rights and casting ballots, everyone in every community is part of this ever-evolving story–the story of democracy in America.
