About “Peg Leg” Howell:
Joshua Barnes Howell, known as “Peg Leg” Howell, was born in Eatonton, Georgia, on March 5, 1888. He taught himself to play guitar at age 21 and later became a fixture on Atlanta street corners. In 1926, Howell recorded “New Prison Blues” for Columbia Records—the first country blues record issued by the label. Howell passed away in 1966 at the age of 78, leaving behind a lasting legacy in blues history. Don’t miss this lively celebration of music, history, and community in Downtown Eatonton.
