Top Festivals for Spring in Georgia
Georgia's winters are mostly mild, but we still jump for joy when spring arrives with its warm sunshine, beautiful blooms and lots of festivals.
1. Azalea Festival in Valdosta
Celebrating begins at the Valdosta-Lowndes Azalea Festival in Drexel Park each March. Run a 5K race, see birds of prey demonstrations, play in the KidZone and marvel at the rainbow of azalea colors. Early-to-mid-March
2. International Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon
Macon has impressive bragging rights with its International Cherry Blossom Festival in March. The city’s 350,000 Yoshino cherry trees have earned it the title of “Cherry Blossom Capital of the World.” Over the last three decades, the festival has grown from a weekend event to 10 days of parades, live music and fireworks. Mid-March
3. Savannah Music Festival
Savannah celebrates with the Savannah Music Festival, covering more than two weeks. Get into the groove with jazz, roots, blues and world music artists during Georgia's largest music festival. Late March to mid-April
4. Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival
Conyers is cherry blossom happy, too, celebrating its festival at the Georgia International Horse Park in March. Wear pink, and you might win a prize. Kids are big winners here with an interactive play area, puppet shows and a scavenger hunt. Best of all, the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival is free! Late March
5. Blessing of the Fleet in Darien
Each spring, Darien holds The Blessing of the Fleet Festival for the captains of local shrimp boats. The largest event of its kind on the East Coast, it's also a great time to exercise with the 5K run, admire arts and crafts, watch fireworks and salute seagoing ships during the maritime parade. Early April
6. Atlanta Dogwood Festival
The Atlanta Dogwood Festival heralds the arrival of spring and the city's ubiquitous white and pink blooms at Piedmont Park. Brighten your abode with an original sculpture or a painting from the juried artist market. Chill out or dance to musical stars under the evening sky, expand your world view at the International Village Cultural Exchange Pavilions and marvel at the high-flying canines at Disc Dogs. Mid-April
7. Thomasville Rose Show and Festival
Since the 1920s, Thomasville has been celebrating spring by showing off roses at the Rose Show and Festival, and over the years, the festivities have grown to include a huge parade, fireworks, live music, food and much more. Spend the weekend in April admiring thousands of roses from all over the Southeast, strolling through the car show, finding new pieces for your collection at Art in the Park and enjoying the city's unique brand of Southern hospitality.
