Historic City Hall was built in 1910. The site of the building was the original site of the first hospital in Griffin, which was later moved to another location so City Hall could begin construction. The original purpose was for City offices to be in the front half and the Fire Department in the rear half, but two separate buildings sharing a common wall; upstairs was an auditorium most likely used as meeting space for aldermen and court proceedings and dormitories for the Fire Department. The original fire pole still exists. Later, a lower floor was added to house the Jail. Currently, 75% of the building is used for Economic Development offices and event rental spaces. The old fire bay was updated with white-washed brick and industrial fans, with a side patio area and large wooden doors. The two upper levels were renovated and restored with original flooring and crown molding, along with the addition to the stair case for a grand entrance in the lobby. The jail has been left untouched and in the original state on the lower level.
