Homer was incorporated as a town in 1859 and serves as the county seat of Banks County, Georgia. This small rural town is located on Old U.S. Highway 441 and close to I-85. Homer has many historic structures, including the historic courthouse built in 1863 and the historic Old Jail built c. 1880. Play golf at Hammer's Glen, visit local potter Steve Turpin at Turpin Pottery, shop the outlet stores at Banks Crossing or experience the thrill of drag racing at Atlanta Dragway. The Narrows in Banks County is where Ty Cobb was born and not too far from town is Fort Hollingsworth, a circa 1792/1793 fort turned farmhouse in 1860. Although you can't get up close, stop by for a sunset picture of the Blind Suzie Covered Bridge outside of town.
