The Lone Star State Flag of Texas was designed and made in Knoxville, Georgia. Joanna Troutman, a 17 year old girl, made it as a battle flag for a group of volunteers going from Georgia to Texas to fight for the Independence of Texas from Mexico. The flag was later adopted as the State Flag. Joanna Troutman's body was moved from Crawford County, Georgia to Austin, Texas. A statue of a young woman sewing a flag is at her gravesite and a protrait of Joanna is hung in the Capitol. An Historical Marker is on the grounds of the Courthouse in Knoxville. The Courthouse is across the road from the place where Joanna lived when the flag was made.
