Georgians Take Home a Gaggle of 2019 Grammy Awards
As has become customary, Georgia once again boasts numerous Grammy winners. The state’s biggest winner this year is rapper/singer Childish Gambino (Stone Mountain’s Donald Glover, pictured), whose topical song "This is America" won for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Music Video.
The Atlanta-based historical record label Dust-to-Digital was also behind a multiple award winner. Its release, "Voices of Mississippi: Artists and Musicians Documented by William Ferris," won for Best Historical Album and Best Album Notes.
Atlanta’s Future was 1/4 of the rapping team (along with Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and James Blake) behind last year’s hit song "King's Dead," which tied with Anderson .Paak's "Bubblin" for Best Rap Performance.
Now based in Nashville where he's a highly regarded producer, Georgia's Dave Cobb took home a Grammy during the Feb. 10 ceremony as a co-writer of Brandi Carlile's "The Joke" (along with Carlile and Phil and Tim Hanseroth), which won for Best American Roots Song. Produced by Cobb and Shooter Jennings, Carlile’s album "By the Way, I Forgive You," won for Best Americana Album.
Finally, former President Jimmy Carter of Plains, Georgia, won the Best Spoken Word Album Grammy for his audio book "Faith, A Journey for All."
