3 Top Hot Atlanta Taco Spots
Having gone to culinary school in Oklahoma, I learned to cook (and eat) some really outstanding Tex Mex and Mexican food. As a result, I can say that there are some Atlanta restaurants that have some great tacos on the menu. So, if you’re looking for a new place to bring in Taco Tuesday, celebrate Cinco de Mayo, or just want to indulge in some delicious Tex-Mex north of the Border, check out these Atlanta hot spots.
El Taco, North Virginia Highlands
The Original El Taco has been voted “Best Mexican” by CitySearch and has the reputation of being one Atlanta’s favorite neighborhood taquerias with authentic dishes and great frozen margaritas. They serve both Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes in a friendly and fun atmosphere that’s both adult and kid-friendly. What won me over? Their free salsa bar featuring house-made salsa combinations with fresh cilantro and limes. Yum!
Uncle Julio’s Fine Mexican Food, Atlanta
Uncle Julio’s is know for its grilled entrees that are cooked over natural mesquite charcoal imported from Mexico and their $2 Taco Tuesdays. Delicious and affordable. What won me over? Location. Location. Location. Uncle Julio’s is conveniently located near Centennial Olympic Park, the High Museum of Art, the Georgia Aquarium, and a short drive from Georgia Tech.
Verde Taqueria, Brookhaven
For a more “non-traditional” taco experience, you’ll want to give Verde a try. Their meatless options include Grilled Veggie and Buffalo Tofu — both are full of great flavor. The Fried and Grilled Chicken tacos are crisp, tender and packed with a spicy chipotle aioli. What won me over? The Fried Calamari — it has lots of mini tentacles, fried jalapenos and sliced lemons mixed in, and is served with a zesty dipping sauce.
