Charles E. Choate Exhibit

Charles E. Choate, a native of Houston County, was a Methodist minister and architect in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He designed churches as well as commercial buildings and residence in the state and particularly in Washington County. His designs have been documented in more than two dozen Georgia towns and cities, and at sites in Florida, Alabama, and the Carolinas. Choate's buildings are often located in railroad towns, and the largest concentration of his work is found in Sandersville and Tennille, where Choate settled at the turn of the century.
