(828) 772-4206Join us in the Kaluna Hearth for a hands-on introduction to the art and science of home canning. This two-part workshop series is designed to help participants build confidence with safe, seasonal food preservation while working with the abundance of the late-summer harvest.
Part I: Water-Bath Canning
Saturday, August 15th
1:00–4:00 p.m
In this workshop, we’ll explore the foundations of preserving high-acid foods such as fruits, pickles, salsas, jams, and other seasonal recipes. Participants will learn about safe recipe selection, jar preparation, headspace, processing times, sealing, storage, and common troubleshooting tips.
Part II: Pressure Canning
Saturday, September 12th
1:00–5:00 p.m
In this workshop, we’ll build on those basics and focus on preserving low-acid foods using a pressure canner. We’ll walk through pressure canner safety, equipment, venting, processing, cooling, troubleshooting, and the important differences between water-bath and pressure-canning methods.
Each workshop will include hands-on instruction, time for questions, printed resources to take home, and a finished jar from the day’s work.
Full Series Registration
Because these workshops are designed to build on one another, registration will open first for participants who would like to attend the full two-part series.
Full Two-Part Series: $145 per person
Individual workshop tickets may be released later if space allows.
Space will be limited to keep the experience hands-on, welcoming, and supportive. Whether you’re brand new to canning or looking to refresh your skills, this series is an opportunity to practice safe home preservation, connect with the seasonal rhythms of the farm kitchen, and carry a little of the harvest forward.
