5 Must-Sees for Fans of the Undead
Castleberry Hill
This Atlanta Landmark District is home to the area's oldest and most authentic warehouses and lofts. Castleberry Hill was featured in the Emilio Estevez/Mick Jagger film "Freejack," and was the location of Cuba Gooding's loft in "The Fighting Temptations." Dan Aykroyd's office for "Driving Miss Daisy" was located in the Fulton Supply Warehouse. Some of the warehouse scenes in the Brad Pitt/Juliette Lewis thriller "Kalifornia" were also shot in the neighborhood. Scenes from 2007's "The Signal" also used Castleberry Hill as a backdrop.
Worthington Manor
Worthington Manor (known as Lockwood Manor on "The Vampire Diaries") is a private residence, meaning it's okay to photograph from the street, but please don't trespass. Though "The Vampire Diaries" crew built most of "Lockwood Manor" on a soundstage, they still shoot at the actual home with some frequency. There are a couple of Vampire Diaries tour companies that specialize in many of the show's locations around Covington.
Covington
East of Conyers and slightly larger, Covington has been used in many films because of its small-town charm and proximity to Atlanta. From doubling as the fictional Georgia town of Sparta in TV's "In the Heat of the Night" to "The Vampire Diaries"' town of Mystic Falls, Covington is home to many spots that will be of interest to film and television buffs. The historic Newton County Courthouse, located in the center of the town square, is one of the city's most distinctive shooting locations. The Covington/Newton County Chamber of Commerce has maps available for those interested in a self-guided tour.
Conyers
The Celtic Tavern, located in the heart of Olde Town Conyers, serves as the home of Gillespie’s Pub featured on The CW's "The Originals." Reminisce over the numerous scenes that have been filmed at the Irish Pub establishment while grabbing a quick "bite" or enjoying some nightly entertainment with a full bar selection.
Perry
Unlike the fictional Iowa town depicted in "The Crazies" that has a water system full of toxins, Perry, where the film was largely shot, has a renovated downtown, great shops and restaurants, and all the clean water you can swallow.
Wild Adventures Theme Park
For the film's penultimate scene, "Zombieland" featured Valdosta's Wild Adventures Theme Park as the location where the undead corner our heroes.
