Ty Cobb Museum To Host Spring Vintage Baseball Game, Historic Bob Jones University Baseball Film and Release Baseball Card, Coin
ROYSTON, GA, April 24, 2018 – The Ty Cobb Museum announced today that they will have a spring Vintage Baseball game on Saturday May 19, 2018. In addition, they will release their 2018 baseball card at 10:30 am in the lobby.
Wesley Fricks, executive director of the museum, stated the new baseball card will be released the morning of the event and people are already lining up to request the card. “We are very proud of this particular card,” said Fricks. “We believe that this one will be a favorite among the collectors.”
The Museum will also release a 20th anniversary edition challenge coin that was made popular by the United States Military. The coin is expected to sell well also.
At 11:30 am, the Museum will host their first spring vintage base ball double-header games at Cobb Field. Anyone interested in playing on the Tygers Team is encouraged to call the Museum and put their name on the list. All participants will get to play. The Tygers will play the Georgia Peaches by the 1860’s rules. All ages are encouraged to participate.
At 5:00 pm, the Museum will host a free showing of the film, “Milltown Pride” at the Taylor Chapel located on the beautiful campus of Emmanuel College. Dr. Darren Lawson, the Dean of Fine Arts and Communications at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina will moderate the showing of the film. Dr. Lawson also produced the film and played an acting role as the lead’s father.
The film is about “Will Wright’s dream of playing baseball in the big leagues and he is ready to sacrifice anything to make it happen. But in South Carolina during the 1920s, the only path to pro baseball is through the local textile mill team. Against the wishes of his wealthy father, Will leaves his family and privileged life behind to work in the harsh conditions at Newton Mill. His natural talent on the field makes him the rising star of the mill-league team—and also earns him a dangerous rival. How much will he risk for his chance at the big leagues? And when you hit rock bottom, is there a way up?”
