Originally known as "Shakerag", Wadley takes its current name from the president of the Central of Georgia Railway. The name change coincided with Wadley's designation as an official stop on the railroad. Wadley is home of the studio and gallery of nationally recognized folk artists Willie and Mae Tarver. The town also features an abundance of historic properties, including a historic and intact downtown.
