The Golden Isles celebrates more than 250 years of Black history and features several historic sites that focus on this important piece of the area’s past. Discover the important contributions made to the fabric of the Golden Isles which include St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, Sapelo Island, Blackbeard Island, Historic Darien, and Historic Brunswick through daily specialized tours. Heritage Tours explores the history of the Golden Isles from a Black perspective; discussing aspects of its past often overlooked by general-interest tour companies. Walking tours, bus tours, car tours, and step-on tours are available, led by guides who specialize in this topic. Our tours are guided explorations of the Golden Isle’s principal Black heritage sites and attractions, often focusing on the area's legacy of slavery and the experiences of its large Black population through the period of enslavement and their transition to freedom. We also address the culture and history of the local Geechee people, part of the Gullah-Geechee cultural corridor stretching up through coastal South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
