Originally built around 1857, the Byron Historic Train Depot is at the geographic center of Byron. This newly revamped history museum is open for visitors to learn about Byron's background and trains through pictures, documents, and artifacts for free. For the train watchers: an outdoor deck around our caboose allows for pleasant viewing. Train schedules are not published by Norfolk Southern for several reasons, so you can ask to see inside the Byron Historic Jail, eat some lunch at The Drugstore Deli, or spend some time relaxing at Jailhouse Park all within walking distance while you wait. There are also a couple boutiques, and a flower stand down the street to check out depending on your visiting time.

Notes:

  • Viewing is typically self-guided, but someone will be there to answer any questions or give you some information about the topics in the museum if desired.
  • The freight room is open for viewing, unless it is rented that day for a private event. The space holds 40 people. Call the Byron Welcome Center at 478-956-2409 for more rental details.
