See the site of an attempted ambush by Confederate General Joseph Johnston's Confederate Army against Union forces commanded by Lt. General Schofield. The Federal army occupied Cassville until November 5, 1864, when it burned the town in retaliation for Confederate partisan guerrilla activity. It was never rebuilt. A relief map depicts the fighting that occurred.
