Appling
Appling is the county seat of Columbia County. Located near the shores of Clarks Hill Lake, the town is popular with kayakers, stand-up paddleboarders, Jet Skiers and more. Camping, glamping, picnicking and a beach area are available at Wildwood Park, which hosts fishing tournaments each summer. Mistletoe State Park is another a popular destination for beachgoers, bass fishers, campers and mountain-bike riders.
Appling is also the home of the International Disc Golf Center, with three 18-hole championship courses, a pro shop, clubhouse, a Frisbee museum, hall of fame and more. The center is the headquarters of the Professional Disc Golf Association.
Kiokee Baptist Church is the oldest continuing Baptist church in Georgia, dating back to 1772 and likely named after a nearby creek. The current building was constructed in 1808. Another historical spot to take in is the Columbia County Courthouse, built in 1812 and still in use today.
