Founded in 1786, Greensboro, Georgia is the county seat and hometown of Lake Oconee.
Greensboro is steeped in American history and tradition, having been named after Revolutionary War hero General Nathanael Greene. With a historic downtown filled with elegant antebellum homes, churches and the notable Old Gaol—one of Georgia's oldest penal structures—visitors can explore unique shops, antiques and enjoy the town's Southern hospitality.
Greensboro is also home to several cultural sites, such as the Greene County African American Museum, which offers insights into the area's rich heritage. Additionally, Festival Hall hosts a variety of performances and events throughout the year, enriching the town's cultural landscape.
