McRae-Helena was incorporated on January 1, 2015 and is the first city-city government consolidation in the State of Georgia since 1921. Known as the Crossroads City, McRae-Helena is the convergence point for five state highway routes and two major rail lines. The community has a rich political history having been the home of two former Georgia governors – Eugene Talmadge and Herman Eugene Talmadge. Their historic home has been rehabilitated as the Sugar Creek Plantation and is a popular tourist destination and event center.
