Mitchell
Mitchell is located in Glascock County. Mitchell is home to the Mitchell Depot Historical Museum. It was built around 1886 by the Augusta, Gibson & Sandersville Railroad (later Augusta Southern and Georgia & Florida). The rails, which connected Augusta and Tennille, have been gone since the mid-1930s.
Mitchell is also home to Hamburg State Outdoor Recreation Area. Anglers can enjoy fishing for largemouth bass, crappie and bream, as well as boat ramps and a fishing pier. Wildlife enthusiasts should look for turtles, alligators, raccoons, deer, birds and numerous other animals that live within the park. The park also features a restored 1921 water-powered gristmill that is still operational and used to grind corn during events. The park's museum is also open during events, displaying old agricultural tools and implements used in rural Georgia.
