Crawford Long Museum Association and Jefferson Community Theatre to Present Haints and Saints Historic Walking Tour - Legends, Lore and Love Letters

The Crawford W. Long Museum Association in collaboration with the Jefferson Community Theatre offer a living history weekend bringing some of Jefferson’s past residents and their rich history to life.

Local figures who were a part of Jefferson’s past will tell their stories when the Crawford Long Museum Association and Jefferson Community Theatre presents the Haints and Saints walking tours Friday and Saturday, October 19 and October 20. Moonlight guided tours will take attendees through downtown Jefferson and into historic Woodbine Cemetery, where actors in period costume will present dramatic first-person accounts of their lives and intriguing stories.

Tour attendees will meet legends, Tom Crow, Sr., Tubby and Enoch Brown, and Reverend Vasco Hughey, all portrayed by their descendents. Be intrigued with the lore of Soap Sally and ponder the story of the witch buried on the square. Hear 106 year old love letters from Alva Bennett and Annie Lauries to Ned Pendergrass and a letter to Dr. Crawford Long written by his wife, Caroline, 176 years ago. Learn of the more recent love story between former Mayor Byrd Bruce and his wife, Ann. At the conclusion of the tour, attendees may enjoy a hayride to Cream & Shuga for a complimentary hot chocolate or apple cider.

Andy Garrison with Jefferson Community Theatre will direct the production. The featured individuals are portrayed by performers from JCT and family relatives/descendents. The cast includes, Christine Dalton, Jeanna Herrin, Willie Hughey, Tom Crow, Jr., Jennifer Crow, Bryan Bullock, Pat Healan, Ryan Herring, Karen Herring, Cindy Bruce Davis, Will Wilbanks, Vicki and Keith Long, Jake Bromback, Jamie Allen and Mary Jane Cagle. Tour guides are Hilda Smith, Les Crane, Cindy Crane, Sherry Moore, David Trunk, and Jeff Wit.

This event will be held on Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20. The walking tours will begin at 6:30 pm departing the Crawford Long Museum every 30 minutes with the last tour departing at 9:30 pm each night. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children (age 6 to 12). Tour times must be reserved in advance. Tickets may be purchased online at www.jeffersoncommunitytheatre.com or by calling the museum. Walk-up reservations taken as available. Tour groups limited to 25 people maximum. This event is suitable for children aged 6 and older. Must be able to walk approximately 5 city blocks.

The Crawford Long Museum, located on the Jefferson Public Square at 28 College Street, is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5:00 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 4:00 pm. For further information call 706-367-5307.
