Brochures
Founded in 1854, Andrew College is a two-year Methodist liberal arts college. The college buildings housed Hood Hospital during the latter part of 1864 until the end of the Civil War. The soldiers who died in Hood Hospital are buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
Peg Leg Pete, Andrew's resident ghost, was a soldier at the hospital. He fell in love with one of the students who died. Peg Leg lost his will to live, and he supposedly looks for his lost love in Old Main to this day. Old Main, built in 1892 after a fire devastated the entire college plant, served the entire college until 1947 when the original Pitts Library, now the Suarez Fine Arts Building, was built.
The first college in the United States to initiate physical education - called physical culture - for women in 1866, Andrew has a rich history. The college remained a women's college until 1956, when it became coeducational. Today the college serves a diverse group of students from around the world.
