The Hartwell Dam and Lake Hartwell is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts in the Southeastern United States. The dam, located on the Savannah River between Georgia and South Carolina, was completed in 1962 and created a 56,000-acre reservoir.

The dam was built in the 1950s as part of a larger initiative to provide hydroelectric power and flood control to the Southeastern United States. Today, the dam serves as a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities, and its reservoir is one of the largest in the Southeast.

The lake is known for its excellent fishing and boating opportunities, as well as its scenic beauty. The surrounding area also offers numerous recreational activities, such as hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing. Overall, the Hartwell Dam and Lake Hartwell is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of the Southeast.

On the lower side of the dam, along the Savannah River, is one of the newest attractions in Hartwell, the Hartwell Dam Fishing Pier. This pier is free and open to the public. Access it by driving to the Georgia River Recreation Area at the very foot of the Hartwell Dam.
