Thursday May 24, 2018

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- May 22 -- Jekyll Island will host a full week of family-friendly events to celebrate Independence Day. Events include a spectacular oceanfront firework show, live music, bounce houses, an old-fashioned parade and a Swim-In Movie at Summer Waves Water Park.

“July 4th is always exciting on Jekyll Island,” said Meggan Hood, senior director of marketing. “Our fireworks show on July 3 will be bigger and better than ever and our full week of activities will have something for everyone. There’s no better place to celebrate the holiday.”

Planned events include:

Oceanfront Fireworks (Tuesday, July 3, approximately 9 p.m.): Witness the most spectacular fireworks in the Golden Isles. Arrive early to claim your spot on the miles of wide beach on Jekyll. Fireworks are best viewed from between the Holiday Inn Resort and south to the Days Inn on the island’s oceanfront side. The display will begin at approximately 9 p.m. when the sky offers the best background for this incredible pyrotechnic display.

Swim-In Movie at Summer Waves Water Park (Sunday, July 1, 8:30 p.m.): Grab an inner tube and watch The Little Mermaid from the wave pool. This evening of cinematic fun is a great way to stay cool on a hot summer night! Free movie with the purchase of a Night Splash ticket, $15 + tax.

Fourth Annual Jekyll Island Independence Day Parade (Wednesday, July 4, 9 a.m.): Celebrate America’s birthday with an old-fashioned patriotic parade through the Historic District. Locals, residents and island guests are invited to decorate their bikes, golf carts, strollers, pets, and themselves and join in the fun. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the parade. Details, including judging categories, can be found on the Jekyll Island website.

Red, White, & Bounce (Wednesday, July 4, noon to 6 p.m.): Bring the whole family to the Beach Village where inflatables will fill the Village Green. Enjoy live music and sidewalk sales throughout the day while the kids bounce and play on the Green.

Beach Village Music Series (Saturday, July 7, 5:30 p.m.): New for 2018, enjoy the sounds of summer during the Beach Village Music Series. Held the first Saturday of the month, June-September, the Village Green will come alive with an eclectic mix of musical acts. Sing along, cut a rug, or simply enjoy these talented artists while you shop or dine in the Beach Village. Bring a beach blanket or chair and you’ll have the best seat in the house. On July 7, enjoy a special patriotic version of the Beach Village Music Series, featuring the Jacksonville Jaguars D-Line.

Admission for most Independence Day activities is free. However, an increased gate fee of $10 for daily passes will be in effect Tuesday, July 3. For more information, visit the Jekyll Island website.
