Situated in an area formerly known as "The Strip," which was the heart of the African American district until the 1980s, the center now houses arts offices and the Marlor Art Gallery. Adjacent to the John Marlor Art Center is the Allen's Market Building, a 1911 structure repurposed to serve as a theater, meeting, and studio space.
