An impressive neo-classical style brick Courthouse. This is Jasper County's third Courthouse. The first was a log cabin built in 1811. The second was a handsome three story brick building in the center of the Town Square from 1841 until 1909. Designed by Lockwood Brothers and built by W.J. Beeland of Macon, the current Jasper County Courthouse has a hexagonal cupola clock tower and front portico held up by four massive Corinthian columns. The interior features beautiful stained woodwork, a cast iron staircase leading to the upstairs Courtroom and a stained glass skylight in the dome that can be seen from the main floor entrance foyer. The Courthouse has recently undergone additions and rehabilitation, but still keeps with its original architectural style.
This Courthouse has been seen in a few movies over the years, The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976), Murder in Coweta County (1983), and My Cousin Vinny (1991).
