Stone Mountain Village

Stop by our Visitor Center, located on Main Street in a vintage 1915 wooden caboose, minutes away from Stone Mountain Park's West Gate entrance. We'll give you a walking map for our village. Shopping is abundant in our eclectic stores. The Village was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The City of Stone Mountain unveiled a piece of public art that depicts a replica of one of Sherman's Neckties. The location of the sculpture marks the approximate place where Sherman began his "March to the Sea."  Historians say Sherman published an order mandating the melting and twisting of rails along the tracks, rendering useless this major form of transportation used by the Confederacy. The red hot rails were bent around trees and telegraph poles, and were coined by soldiers and journalists as "Sherman's Neckties."  The monument in Stone Mountain was an effort from the city's Civil War Committee chaired by author and civic leader Dr. George Coletti.
