A short 50-mile trip heading south from Atlanta will bring you to one of Georgia's most peaceful outdoor recreation areas. Sprewell Bluff Park is located on Highway 74, about 10 miles west of Thomaston. This little-known gem on the free-flowing Flint River is one of Upson County's greatest assets.
The Park is located in the Pine Mountain Ridges in the Piedmont ecoregion on Oak Mountain. It is located right above the Fall Line, a geological feature that runs from North Carolina through Georgia and into Alabama containing steep slopes and ridges that rise 300-400 feet in elevation, providing many special habitats. Steep, narrow gorges have been created in the area by the Flint. Past high mountains have eroded into rolling hills and low mountains in the area, creating unique geological features. The flora and fauna of this area have elements of montane, piedmont, and coastal plain regions, providing many special habitats.
Sprewell Bluff Park offers breathtaking views of the Flint River and the surrounding natural beauty and offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, camping, and kayaking, making it an ideal destination for adventure seekers. The Park has riverside picnic areas, grill stations, pavilions, and a playground, making it a great spot for a family outing or serene lunch. This area is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, fox, otters, turtles, and bald eagles, providing a unique opportunity for nature enthusiasts. This serene location is perfect for a relaxing getaway with family and friends. With calm waters, stunning views, and ample space, it's an excellent place for a refreshing outdoor adventure.
Sprewell Bluff Park's River Ridge Campground offers cabins, RV sites, primitive sites and a bathhouse.
